Diamond Hawks Drop First CAA Game



BROOKLINE, Mass. – Junior Aaron Civale allowed one earned run over eight innings and Zach Perry and Max Burt had three hits apiece as Northeastern raced past UNCW, 9-4, in the opening game of a Colonial Athletic Association series on Friday at Friedman Diamond.

The Huskies improved to 2-2 in the league and 12-12 overall. The Seahawks, meanwhile, fell to 15-8 and 2-1 in the circuit.

Civale (4-1) earned the win after holding UNCW in check all game. The righthander allowed three runs, one earned, on seven hits. He finished with two walks and struck out five.

Zach Perry finished with three runs batted in with the last two coming across on a home run in the eighth inning. Josh Treff also homered, a three-run shot, in the sixth inning.

UNCW starter Ryan Foster (5-1) suffered his first loss of the season after being roughed up for four runs over five-plus innings.

Steven Linkous led the Seahawks with three hits while Nick Feight added a two-hit game.

Up next: The teams will continue the series with an 11 a.m. doubleheader on Saturday.

Home Runs: NU – Treff (off Magestro in the 6th inning, two on, one out), Perry (off Roberson in the eighth inning, one on, two out)

How it happened: With the game tied 1-all, Northeastern struck for four runs on four hits in the sixth inning to establish a 5-1 lead. Josh Treff highlighted the outburst with a three-run homer off reliever Austin Magestro.

Notes: UNCW was caught stealing four times in the first three innings and five times for the game … The loss snapped a four-game winning streak for UNCW against the Huskies … Nick Feight extended his hitting streak to 17 games with a triple in the seventh.
