Seahawks Edge Columbia on Adamczyk's Walk-Off Home Run

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Freshman third baseman Hannah Adamczyk hit a two-run home run to left field with no outs in the bottom of the eighth inning as UNCW extended its win streak to four straight games with a 4-2 comeback victory over Columbia in the series opener at Boseman Field on Thursday evening.

The win elevated the Seahawks' record to 17-9 on the season while Columbia dropped to 3-13 after suffering its ninth consecutive loss.

Adamczyk finished the game with two hits, including a double in the third inning, while driving in three of the Seahawks' four runs. Five other UNCW players tallied a hit in the contest, including freshman Lacey Fox, who had an RBI double in the sixth inning.

Junior Peyton Jordan earned the win in relief after allowing just two hits in two innings. She also recorded three strikeouts while improving to 8-2 on the season.

Junior Kayla Maloney suffered the loss in the circle after allowing four runs on seven hits. She also tallied two strikeouts with two walks.

Sophomore Maura Lynch and freshman Reilly Metzger each tallied two hits to lead the Lions' 10-hit attack.

How It Happened: After junior Merritt Wilkinson doubled to right center to open the eighth inning, Adamczyk blasted the second pitch of her at-bat over the left field fence for the first home run of her college career. The home run completed the Seahawks' comeback after UNCW trailed by a 2-1 margin in the fourth inning.  

Inside the Box Score: Jordan, Fox and freshman Laurel Koontz combined to record seven strikeouts while forcing Columbia into 10 ground ball outs … Columbia was 5-for-11 in two-out situations … The Seahawks' leadoff hitters reached base in six of the eight innings … UNCW was 8-for-18 in advancement opportunities.  

#SeahawkStats: UNCW improved to 4-0 this season in extra-inning games … Adamczyk is the third Seahawk to hit a home run this year, joining sophomore Sarah Davis and senior Darian Roberts … The Seahawks were successful in both of their stolen base attempts on Thursday, giving them 49 steals in 55 tries … UNCW has stolen 19 bases in 20 attempts over the last six games … UNCW set a school record by winning its 16th home game of the season, eclipsing the previous mark set last year … The Seahawks are also 11-0 this year when allowing two or fewer runs … In addition, they are 11-1 when scoring at least four runs.  

Up Next for the Seahawks: UNCW completes the three-game series against Columbia at Boseman Field on Friday evening with a doubleheader beginning at 4 p.m. Friday's games are the Seahawks' annual "Strike Out Cancer" contests and fans are encouraged to wear pink.
