UNCW Takes Advantage Of Spider Miscues In 12-9 Win

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Steven Linkous and Brian Mims fueled the Seahawks two hits and two runs batted in apiece at the top of the lineup as UNCW finished off a weekend sweep at the Buffalo Wild Wings Battle at the Beach with a 12-9 win over Richmond on Sunday.

The Seahawks improved to 3-0 with the win while the Spiders suffered their first set back to dip to 2-1.

UNCW batted around for the fourth time this weekend in an eight-run third inning to build a 9-2 lead.

Austin Magestro (1-0) picked up the win in relief and Jared Gesell struck out the side in the ninth, all looking, for his first save of the season.

UR starter Brendan McGuigan (0-1) was saddled with the loss, allowing five unearned runs in two innings of work.
Joining Linkous and Mims with two-hit outings for UNCW were Daniel Stack and Robbie Thorburn. Stack knocked in two runs and stole a base.

Keenan Bartlett finished the day with four hits and a pair of RBI's while Jonathan De Marte and Dalton Light added three hits apiece. Kurtis Brown and Kyle Schmidt connected on home runs for the Spiders, who out hit the Seahawks, 18-9.
