Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase Central
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW limited Lafayette and Delaware State to just one run and eight hits en route to a pair of wins to open the Lafayette Ford Lincoln of Fayetteville Showcase at Boseman Field on Friday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who upped their record to 4-2 on the season, posted a 4-0 victory over Lafayette in the first game before completing the sweep with a 7-1 triumph against Delaware State.
Junior
Peyton Jordan earned the complete game shutout in the win over Lafayette by allowing just five hits with two strikeouts. In the nightcap, sophomore
Sarah Davis allowed just one unearned run over six innings in the circle while hitting her second home run of the season.
Freshman
Hannah Adamczyk paced the Seahawks' offense with three hits, including a 2-for-3 performance against Delaware State. She also drove in a pair of runs against the Hornets while registering a double in the win over Lafayette.
How It Happened vs. Lafayette: The Seahawks scored a single run in the third and fifth innings before a two-run single by
Erin Brown upped the advantage to 4-0 in the sixth inning. Meanwhile, Jordan did not allow a hit through the first 5.2 innings.
How It Happened vs. Delaware State: UNCW scored five runs in the first two innings, including a four-run second inning, to build a 5-0 advantage the Seahawks did not relinquish. Delaware State closed the gap to 5-1 in the third inning before the Seahawks added two more runs, including a solo home run by Davis in the fifth inning, for a 7-1 advantage.
Inside the Box Scores: Jordan forced Lafayette into 15 ground ball outs in the first game … The Seahawks held Lafayette and Delaware State to a combined 2-for-17 hitting with runners on base … The Seahawks were 6-for-13 in advancement opportunities against Lafayette before hitting 8-for-13 in those situations in the win over Delaware State.
