Tennessee Pulls Away to Defeat Seahawks, 90-54

KNOXVILLE, Tennessee – Junior Jaime Nared led five Tennessee players in double figures with 21 points as the Lady Volunteers pulled away in the second half to defeat UNCW by a 90-54 margin at Thompson-Boling Arena on Thursday evening.

The win elevated the Lady Vols' record to 8-4 while the Seahawks dropped to 5-6 after their non-conference finale.

Nared made 7-of-13 shots from the floor and all six of her free throws as the Lady Volunteers shot 58.1 percent from the field, including a 20-for-31 showing in the second half.
 
Sophomore guard Meme Jackson and redshirt junior center Mercedes Russell each added 20 points for Tennessee while senior guard Jordan Reynolds posted a triple-double with 11 points, 14 rebounds and 10 assists.

Junior center Rebekah Banks led UNCW in the loss with 10 points while junior forward Jenny DeGraaf added nine points and eight rebounds.  

How It Happened: Tennessee outscored UNCW by a 27-7 margin in the third quarter to pull away. The Lady Volunteers closed out the quarter with a 26-3 spurt over the final eight minutes as Russell scored 11 of her 20 points during the period.

Game Notes: Thursday's game was the first-ever meeting between UNCW and Tennessee in women's basketball … UNCW is now 0-7 all-time against teams from the Southeastern Conference … Tennessee has won four straight games, marking its longest win streak since opening the 2015-16 campaign with five victories in a row … The Seahawks matched their season high with 10 steals … Tennessee outrebounded UNCW by a 49-31 margin, marking just the fourth time this season the Seahawks have not held the edge on the boards … Freshmen guards Lacey Suggs and Katelyn Weems made their collegiate debuts for the Seahawks … Suggs hit one of two free throws while Weems missed her lone field goal attempt … Tennessee held a commanding 56-24 advantage in points scored in the paint.
