ELON, North Carolina – UNCW and Elon proved why they are the top two defensive units in the Colonial Athletic Association as the teams played to a scoreless draw in the regular season finale for both teams at Rudd Field on Tuesday evening.
The draw allowed the Seahawks to secure a berth in the CAA Championship field while improving to 8-5-3 overall and 3-2-3 in the CAA. Meanwhile, Elon sealed up the fourth seed with the tie while moving to 7-5-4 on the season with an identical 3-2-3 mark in league play.
"We are delighted to get a point on the road at Elon tonight," UNCW Coach
Aidan Heaney said. "Our players showed great determination and grit to get the point we needed to advance to postseason play. It wasn't easy as Elon is a good team, but we felt we did enough on the night. I know the players are excited to play at home Saturday night against College of Charleston."

Ryan Cretens earned his sixth shutout of the season after making one save as UNCW limited Elon to just seven shots, including one attempt in the first half.
