Volleyhawks Fall In Five At William & Mary

WILLIAMSBURG, Virginia – Nicole Lott tied a season-high with 22 kills, but William & Mary edged UNCW, 3-2 (16-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 15-13), in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action on Sunday at Kaplan Arena.

The Tribe finished off a 2-0 weekend with the win to improve to 2-4 in the league and 8-11 overall. W&M upended conference-leading College of Charleston, 3-2, on Friday. UNCW drops to 2-4 in the CAA with its third straight loss and now stands at 12-6 on the season.

"While not the outcome we envisioned, this match was a battle of long rallies and some great volleyball on both sides of the net," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Statistically, our offense and blocking were better than William & Mary, but we need to be more consistent from set to set and need more hitters to take on some of the load."

Lott held match-high honors with her 22 kills and she finished off another double-double effort, her 12th of the season, with 17 digs. Adding a double-double of her own was Maddy Kline with 10 kills and 15 digs.

UNCW's Sydney Alvis and W&M's Sara Zumbach tied for match-high honors with 27 digs apiece while Gabrielle Pe collected 23 for the Tribe, which owned a 109-97 advantage in digs.

Casey Foote headed up the Tribe offense with 14 kills with Paige Humphrey and Katie Primatic chipped in 12 and 10, respectively. Primatic also chalked up seven blocks.

How it happened: W&M posted seven aces on the afternoon with just one error, while the Seahawks committed seven service errors.

Notes: The loss snaps a seven-match winning streak against W&M … The Seahawks fell to 2-2 in five-set matches and 4-4 in road matches … With 17 digs, Nicole Lott now has 920 for her career … Sydney Brock had seven blocks and leads the team with 76 … UNCW rounds out its six-match road stretch next week with matches at Charleston and Elon.

Up next: The Seahawks visit conference-leading College of Charleston on Oct. 13 for a 7 p.m. first-serve.
