Seahawks Fall To Blue Hens In Volleyball

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Despite 18 kills from Nicole Lott, UNCW dropped a 3-1 (25-21, 22-25, 25-21, 25-21) Colonial Athletic Association volleyball match to visiting Delaware on Sunday at Trask Coliseum.

The Blue Hens raised their record to 9-14 overall and 3-7 in the conference. The Seahawks, who dropped both home matches this weekend, slid to 14-8 and 4-6.

"We started off with a lot of hesitation and miscommunication and once we found some rhythm, it didn't last long enough," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "Delaware played smart aggressive volleyball, which is something we need to get back to."

Autumn Jenkins held match-high honors with 20 kills, posted a .340 hitting average and finished with 13 digs for a double-double. Maria Bellinger added 15 kills in 34 attacks (.353) as Delaware outhit the Seahawks, .272-.190.

Lott was joined in double-figure kills by Maddie Kline, who finished with 12.

Defensively, Taylor Hollingsworth posted a match-high 28 digs for UD and the Blue Hens outblocked UNCW, 9-6, with Alexa Swan posting four blocks, three solo.

How it happened: The Seahawks had no answer for the UD attack of Jenkins, Bllinger, Swan and Lauren Tally, who combined for 52 of Delaware's 61 kills. In the fourth and final set, the Blue Hens hit .455 with just one hitting error in 33 attempts while collecting 16 kills.

Notes: UNCW dropped to 4-4 at home … Seahawk opponents have posted a hitting average of .200-or-better in each of the last three matches … Both teams combined for 21 service errors.

Up next: The Seahawks open their final CAA road weekend of the season on Oct. 28 with a 7 p.m. start at Hofstra.
