BROOKLINE, Massachusetts – Northeastern used an eighth-minute goal from junior midfielder
Gaku Lange to claim a 1-0 Colonial Athletic Association victory over UNCW at Parsons Field on Saturday evening.
The Huskies, who improved to 6-9-0 overall and 3-4-0 in the CAA, earned their fourth win in the last five games. UNCW dropped to 7-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the CAA after losing its second straight game.
"It was a tough result on the road tonight," said UNCW Coach
Aidan Heaney. "We never really recovered from [Northeastern's] goal, which was against the run of play.
"The effort level from our players was there and we had periods of good play, but not enough to redress the balance," Heaney continued. "We will look to bounce back at home Wednesday against James Madison."
Lange gave the Huskies a 1-0 lead with his first goal of the season after he put in a rebound of a shot from junior midfielder
Daniel Arvidsson.
Redshirt sophomore goalkeeper
Ryan Cretens made four saves for the Seahawks, who outshot Northeastern by a 16-13 margin.
Junior goalkeeper
Jonathan Thuresson tallied three saves to earn his fifth shutout of the season for Northeastern.
