Volleyball Falls To Towson In Four Sets

TOWSON, Maryland – In a key early-season matchup in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action, Towson tripped up UNCW, 3-1 (23-25, 25-18, 25-14, 25-22) on Saturday at the SECU Arena.

The Tigers, who were picked third in the league's preseason poll, moved to 14-3 overall and 2-1 in the CAA while the Seahawks, who were tabbed second, drop to 12-4 and 2-2.

"Overall, we had trouble both offensively and defensively," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "We made too many unforced errors and only played aggressive defense in spurts. I have to applaud the comeback in the fourth set, but we needed that effort and mentality a lot earlier in the match."

Nicole Lott paced UNCW with 14 kills while Kristen Powell was the only other Seahawk in double digits with 10. UNCW hit just .092 on the match.

For the Tigers, who hit .245 on the night, Jessica Lewis finished with 15 kills while Jocelyn Kulian and Carola Biver added 11 and 10, respectively.

How it happened: Towson, which overcame 13 service errors, held the Seahawks to a season-low, .092 hitting average.

Notes: The Seahawks fell to 8-21 all-time against Towson and 1-13 in Towson … Sydney Alvis finished with a team-high 19 digs while Towson posted an 80-70 advantage in digs.

Up next: The Seahawks continue their six-match road stretch with a 7 p.m. start at James Madison on Oct. 7.
