Malaya Johnson led four Elon players in double figures with 15 points and added eight rebounds as Elon pulled away in the second half to earn a 70-53 Colonial Athletic Association victory over UNCW at Alumni Gym on Tuesday evening.

The Phoenix improved to 11-7 overall and 4-3 in the CAA after claiming its second straight win. Meanwhile, the Seahawks dropped to 5-13 overall and 1-6 in the league following their fourth consecutive loss.

In leading the Phoenix to the victory, Johnson made 5 of 12 shots from the floor and was 5-for-6 from the free throw line. Junior guard
Essence Baucom added 12 points with five rebounds and five assists while freshman guard
Nikki McDonald contributed 12 points.

Shay Burnett chipped in 11 points for the Phoenix along with a team-high eight rebounds.

Shatia Cole led UNCW in the loss by scoring a game-high 19 points, including a 9-for-12 performance from the free throw line. Junior guard
Jasmine Steele contributed 12 points with three steals and two assists while sophomore guard
Madison Raque scored eight points and grabbed a career-high eight rebounds.

How It Happened: Johnson scored 9 of her 15 points in the first half as the Phoenix jumped out to a 34-29 lead. Elon used a 9-0 run over a two-minute span in the first quarter to break a 4-4 tie and take a 13-4 lead it did not relinquish.
