Second Half Surge Lifts UNCW Past Campbell, 6-2

2015 Courtyard by Marriott Wrightsville Beach Classic Tournament Central
WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Senior midfielders Jordan Cordero (Southwest Onslow H.S./Jacksonville, N.C.) and Daniel Escobar (Cali, Colombia) each scored a goal and added an assist as UNCW (3-0-1) erupted for a season-high six goals en route to a 6-2 victory over Campbell (0-3-0) in the finale of the 2015 UNCW Courtyard by Marriott Wrightsville Beach Classic at UNCW Soccer Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The Seahawks, who won their third consecutive game, earned the tournament championship by virtue of a goal differential tiebreaker over Elon, which defeated North Florida by a 5-2 margin in the first game.

Sophomore Kalvin Kromer (Green Hope H.S./Cary, N.C.) gave UNCW a 1-0 lead in the 35th minute when he headed in a crossing pass from Cordero for his first goal of the season.

Just 50 seconds into the second half, the Camels tied the match at 1-1 when sophomore midfielder Marco Perez (Garner H.S./Garner, N.C.) knocked in a rebound of a shot by junior forward Tunji Osifeso (Laurel H.S./Laurel, Md.).

But, the Seahawks answered by scoring four consecutive goals over the next 26 minutes to take a commanding 5-1 advantage. Escobar scored a goal with an assist during the run while senior defender Spencer Tayloe (Wilmington, N.C.) added the first goal of his career.

With 18:52 remaining, Campbell sophomore forward Bradley Farias (South Fork H.S./Indiantown, Fla.) ended the Seahawks' run by scoring an unassisted goal before freshman David Lozano (Ashbrook H.S./Gastonia, N.C.) countered for the Seahawks just 47 seconds later with his first career tally.

Junior Sean Melvin (Victoria, British Columbia, Canada) and senior Sam Williams (Fayetteville Academy/Clinton, N.C.) combined to make three saves for the Seahawks, who outshot Campbell by a 15-10 margin.
