Sideout With The Seahawks: Morgan Owney

Q: Take us through your pre-match mental preparation routine.
It usually involves me dancing around and singing with my teammates in the locker room. However, when it gets closer to game time I normally sit down, close my eyes and try to relax my mind. I visualize myself playing and think about what needs to be done in order to win the game.

Q: Do you belong to any other clubs, groups or organizations?
The surf club

Q: What was your most memorable moment and why.
The two matches at the CAA Championship last year against Delaware and the College of Charleston are, by far, my best memories. We played out of our minds and together as a team. Even though we came up a little short in the semi-final match against CofC, I'll never forget the fight we put up and how aggressive everyone was playing. We left it all on the court.

Q: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
We've been involved with Habitat for Humanity, chopped wood for people's homes, done work on an animal farm, and I've worked with feeding the homeless a couple of times.

Q: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
I'm majoring in tourism and recreation. I chose this major because I love people and I love being outside. With this major I could hopefully work by the ocean my entire life or travel around the world working with all types of children and adults.

Q: Describe your dream job:
My dream job would be working in a surf mission somewhere tropical where I could bring the joy of the ocean, surfing, and God to underprivileged kids and adults. Being able to spread happiness and goodness to people all over the world, while doing what I love, is the ultimate goal.

Q: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
I love our dance parties before games, but my all-time favorite tradition is the IPod game. For this game you have to pick a song you know all the words to, put the headphones on, turn the music all the way up, close your eyes, and sing the song of your choosing to the best of your abilities. It's probably one of the funniest things ever.

Q: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
Meredith Peacock, she is one cool girl. She's all about putting others before herself and that's going to take her places in life. I can't imagine her doing anything boring because she's so adventurous and genuinely wants to better the world around her.

Q: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
"I know that there is nothing better for people than to be happy and to do good while they live. That each of them may eat and drink, and find satisfaction in all their toil - this is the gift of God" Ecclesiastes 3:12-13

Q: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)? How about meal?
It is definitely Mexican food, I love everything about it. My favorite meal though would for sure be seared ahi tuna, coconut rice, and a side of fresh pineapple.

Q: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
My favorite place I've traveled would be Costa Rica. Last spring break Pinz (Lindsay Hartmann) took a bunch of our closest friends there and it was a trip of a lifetime. I was able to surf, adventure around, eat delicious food, and more with all of my closest friends. Also the people of Costa Rica were some of the nicest and genuinely happy people I've ever met. It was such a cool experience and I'll never forget it.

Q: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Kelli Crouse! She's been my best friend since high school and now she lives in Kentucky. I get to see her like twice a year and that's not enough. She's the funniest person I've ever met and I miss her!

Q: Most addicting television show?
How I Met Your Mother ... I'm in love with that show.

Q: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
I just want to bring love and positivity to the people around me so that the world is more genuinely happy. So, whether I'm able to do that by just interacting with people or through my future career, I pray that I'm able to impact people's lives.

Q: What is number one on your bucket list and why?
Swimming/cage diving with sharks in South Africa is definitely number one on my bucket list right now. I've always wanted to go to South Africa and they have huge great white sharks there. If I was able to get super close to one of those and not be harmed ... it would be the coolest thing ever.

Q: What is your best non-athletic skill?
I really like to paint.

Q: Favorite person to follow on Twitter?
Either @HistoryInPics or @EarthPics

Q: What is something you are afraid of?
I'm a little claustrophobic. I hate enclosed spaces that are really tiny. It freaks me out.

Q: What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
My dad passed away near the end of my freshman year of college. You don't really get over something like that, however, it's made me really appreciate everyone in my life and the opportunities I've been blessed to have. My dad was such an amazing man!
