Sideout With The Seahawks: Victoria Phillips

With the seasone opener less than three weeks away, we'll take some time to get to know more about the VolleyHawks. We'll start this series with one of three seniors in the program, Victoria Phillips. Through three seasons, Phillips ranks ninth on UNCW's all-time assist list with 1,362 after handing out 4.11 assists per set as a junior.
Q: Take us through your pre-match mental preparation routine.
We like to blast music in the locker room and have dance parties.

Q: What was your most memorable moment and why.
When we beat College of Charleston last year on our home court. I will never forget how good it felt to finally beat them.

Q: What are some community activities you or your team have done?
We often participate in Habitat for Humanity.

Q: What is your intended or declared major and why did you choose that major?
Elementary Education. I chose it because I love working with kids and enjoy teaching.

Q: Describe your dream job:
My ultimate dream job would be to own my own fashion boutique.

Q: Favorite team tradition/activity and why?
Having our annual preseason team dinner. It's always fun to get dressed, take a bunch of pictures, and get to know our teammates before the season starts.

Q: Which teammate will have the most interesting job in 10 years and why?
I am really interested to see what Morgan Owney does in 10 years. She is the most adventurous of the team and I could see her being a pro surfer in Hawaii, which would be awesome.

Q: What animal would best describe you and why?
A unicorn, because they are awesome. (editor's note, we know unicorns do not exist, but this is her profile so we allowed them)

Q: What is your favorite quote or phrase?
"I can do all things through Christ who gives me strength."

Q: What is your favorite type of food (i.e. Chinese, Mexican, Italian etc.)? How about meal?
Italian. Favorite meal would be penne ala vodka.

Q: Favorite place you have visited or traveled to and why?
Italy. Everything you see there is absolutely beautiful and historical.

Q: If you could sit down for lunch with anyone in the world, who would it be and why?
Jesus Christ because I have so many questions that I would like to ask.

Q: Most addicting television show?
The Bachelor/Bachelorette

Q: How will you change the world (or even just one person's world)?
I hope to help and make a positive difference for as many kids I can when I become a teacher.

Q: Tell us something about yourself that most people don't know …
I still am afraid of the dark sometimes.

Q: What is number one on your bucket list?
Go on an African safari.

Q: What is your best non-athletic skill?
I am a Disney trivia pro.

Q: What is your biggest pet peeve and why?
Slow drivers. I hate having to wait when I drive.

Q: What is something you are afraid of?
Dying alone.

Q: What is an obstacle you had to overcome in your life?
I was always told I was too short to be a D1 Volleyball setter and that is something I had to overcome throughout middle school and high school to prove to everyone who said I couldn't that I could. It felt good to prove them wrong.
