Seahawks End Homestand With Doubleheader Sweep

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Sophomore Peyton Jordan (Marvin Ridge H.S./Waxhaw, N.C.) scattered four hits over 10.0 innings as UNCW (11-4) extended its winning streak to five consecutive games with a doubleheader sweep at the University Area Hampton Inn Showcase at Boseman Field on Sunday afternoon.

The Seahawks, who finished a nine-game homestand with their second doubleheader sweep in as many days, claimed a 6-1 victory over Youngstown State before recording their first shutout of the season with a 4-0 triumph over Norfolk State in the nightcap.

After posting a win in the Seahawks' win over Youngstown State on Saturday night, Jordan earned a save in the victory over the Penguins on Sunday by throwing three innings of scoreless relief and allowed just two hits with four strikeouts. She came back in the nightcap to post her first shutout of the season by allowing just two hits while adding four strikeouts.

Freshman designated player Sarah Davis (Walter Williams H.S./Burlington, N.C.) led the UNCW offense with three hits, including a double, while sophomore outfielder Merritt Wilkinson (Western Alamance H.S./Burlington, N.C.) hit her first home run of the season against Youngstown State with a three-run blast in the fourth inning.

Senior pitcher Casey Rowland (Colonie Central H.S./Albany, N.Y.) earned the win against Youngstown State by throwing four scoreless innings. While improving to 4-2 on the season, Rowland allowed just four hits and tallied three strikeouts.

In the first game of the day, Youngstown State earned a 7-2 victory over the Spartans.
