Green Wave Take 8-4 Win With Three-Run Sixth Inning


WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Stephan Alemais had two hits and two runs batted in and Tulane plated three runs in the sixth to break a 3-all tie as the Green Wave dealt UNCW an 8-4 setback on Tuesday at Brooks Field.

The Green Wave improved to 19-10 with the win while the Seahawks dropped to 18-8 with their second consecutive loss.

Tulane starter Patrick Duester (4-2) picked up the win going 5.2 innings, allowing three runs on eight hits and three walks. The junior righthander struck out eight. Eric Steele picked up his second save of the season.

 UNCW reliever Austin Magestro was tagged with the loss to dip to 3-2.

Joining Alemais with two hits apiece were Jake Rogers and Lex Kaplan, both scored two runs.

Luke Dunlap had two hits for UNCW, including a double. Nick Feight doubled and also hit his first homer for the Seahawks.

Up next: The Seahawks open a three-game non-conference series with UNCA on Thursday at 6 p.m.

How it happened: Tulane plated three runs in the sixth on just one hit to take a 6-3 lead. Alemais had a two run single and came around to score the third run following a pair of wild pitches.

Inside the box score: Tulane landed its leadoff hitter on base safely in 6-of-9 innings … Lex Kaplan had two of Tulane's six 2-out hits … Both teams had three 2-out RBI's … Four UNCW errors led to three unearned runs.


Notes: It was the first matchup since the 2003 NCAA Baton Rouge Regional … UNCW dropped to 16-4 at home this season and ended the month of March with a 12-6 record … UNCW used five pitchers on the night.
