Rally Hawks Do It Again As Connelly Drives In Tying And Go-Ahead Runs In Eighth

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Terence Connelly delivered a two-run single in the bottom of the eighth and closer Jordan Ramsey nailed down his fifth save of the season as UNCW rallied past Northeasterm, 4-3, for a win and take the opening Colonial Athletic Association series on Saturday at Brooks Field.

The Seahawks rallied from an early 3-1 deficit to improve to 14-6 overall and 2-0 in the league. Northeastern, meanwhile, dropped its fourth straight overall to fall to 7-11 and 0-2.

Casey Golden and Connelly led UNCW with two hits apiece in what turned out to be a pitchers' duel.

Cam Hanley was the only Huskie with two hits while Jimmy Hand belted his first homer of the season in the second inning to give NU a 2-0 lead.

Austin Magestro (3-1) picked the win in relief for the Seahawks. The freshman righthander allowed just two hits and struck out three in two innings.

Ramsey retired the side in the ninth for his fifth save.

Reliever Aaron Lippert (1-1) took the loss, allowing two runs on four hits in 2.1 innings.

Next up: The series finale will be an 11 a.m. start on Sunday.

How it happened: In the eighth inning, Corey Dick started the rally with a single and Golden followed two hitters later with a double to left to push pinch runner Brian Mims around to third. With a 1-2 count, Connelly singled through the right side to score the tying and go-ahead runs.
