Richmond Uses Second Half Run to Edge Seahawks

RICHMOND, Virginia – Junior forward Jordan Henry posted her second consecutive "double double" for UNCW, but it was not enough as Richmond used a strong second half to hand the Seahawks a 63-53 defeat at the Robins Center on Monday evening.
 
The Seahawks dropped to 1-1 on the season after playing their first road game while Richmond extended its win streak to four straight games to open the campaign.
 
Henry scored a team-high 12 points and grabbed a career-high 13 rebounds for the Seahawks while junior guard Amber Reeves added 10 points with four rebounds and two assists. Junior guard Naqaiyyah Teague nearly posted a "double double" for the Seahawks with nine points and 10 rebounds.
 
Sophomore guard Micaela Parson scored 10 of her game-high 14 points in the fourth quarter for the Spiders while junior guard Janelle Hubbard and freshman forward Tuuli Menna each contributed 10 points.    
 
How It Happened: After falling behind by a 42-37 margin with 3:21 left in the third quarter, the Spiders used an 18-2 run, including six points from senior guard Lauren Tolson, to claim a 55-44 advantage with 5:55 remaining. The Seahawks trimmed the deficit to 55-51 with 2:47 left before Richmond sealed the victory by tallying 8 of the final 10 points.
 
#SeahawkStats: Richmond has won six of the last seven games in the series, extending its advantage in the series to 33-10 … The teams shot a combined 17-for-57 (29.8%) in the first half … The Spiders outrebounded UNCW by a slim 43-42 margin, but the Seahawks had 20 offensive rebounds … UNCW matched a season high by scoring 20 points in the third quarter … There were 7 ties and 14 lead changes … The Seahawks made 10 of 13 free throws, but did not have any attempts in the second half … Richmond went 14-for-17 from the free throw line in the fourth quarter.
