Hartmann Passes 1,000 Career Dig Mark As Seahawks Sweep

ELON, North Carolina – Kristen Powell had 11 kills and Nicole Lott added 10 as UNCW overcame deficits in the final two sets to complete the 3-0 (25-23, 25-13, 25-17) sweep of host Elon in Colonial Athletic Association volleyball action Sunday at Alumni Gym.

The Seahawks improved to 14-4 with the win and have won their last three outings. Elon, meanwhile, stayed winless in the league at 0-7 and dipped to 3-17 overall with their eighth consecutive setback.

UNCW hit .330 on the match for their second consecutive outing. Lott (10-0-21) did not commit a hitting error while Powell (11-1-24) was tagged with just one. Anna Moss added nine kills and hit .312.

Defensively, Lindsay Hartmann held match-high honors with 12 digs and became the 10th UNCW player to surpass 1,000 career digs. Morgan Owney added 11 digs and Bella Borgiotti had three blocks.

Megan Gravely led Elon with nine kills while Ally Karle and Kayla Agae added eight kills apiece. Sydel Curry had 34 assists for the Phoenix, who hit .173 on the match.

Up next: The Seahawks return to Trask Coliseum on Oct. 16, for a 7 p.m. start against Towson.

Quotable: "I'm very pleased we were able to put together strong back-to-back matches offensively," said UNCW Head Coach Amy Bambenek. "I thought our in-match defensive adjustments after the first set were executed well and some tough serving helped us build leads throughout the match.

"I'm thrilled for Lindsay (Hartmann) to earn her 1,000 dig. She has worked hard since her freshman year to better her game and this year she is reacting fast on defense and has gained a lot of confidence in her serve receive.

How it happened: The Seahawks hit .467 (30-2-60) over the final two sets and Elon had no answer for that. UNCW used a pair of runs in the final two sets to put the match away. In the second set it was an 8-2 run and in the final set, a 9-1 run that broke a 16-all deadlock.

Notes: Hartmann moved into 10th all-time on UNCW's digs list with 1,008 and needs six to move into a tie for ninth … The Seahawks moved into a tie for second-place with Towson, both teams at 5-1 … UNCW hosts Towson (Oct. 16) and first-place James Madison (Oct. 18) next weekend … UNCW improved to 8-2 in its last 10 matches and have now won five straight against Elon … Head Coach Amy Bambenek enters next weekend's action with 98 career win … In two matches this weekend, UNCW averaged 14.14 kills per set and hit .314 over the two-match span.
