Volleyball Matches Best Start Since 2008 With Sweep Of Norfolk State

GREENVILLE, North Carolina – Meredith Peacock and Morgan Kline combined for 17 kills as UNCW swept Norfolk State on Saturday at the East Carolina Invitational.

The Seahawks ran their record to 5-1 on the season, matching their best start since the 2008 season. The Spartans, meanwhile, stayed winless at 0-6 with the setback.

Kline collected a team-high nine kills while Peacock added eight. Kline also led the Seahawks with 13 digs as UNCW held a narrow 46-44 lead in the category. Setter Alyssa Desjardins recorded 17 assists and eight digs.

UNCW was matched at the net by the Spartans with six total blocks. Kline and Peacock had three apiece.

Jessica Johnson headed up the NSU offense with nine kills. Clarke Tyler added seven kills, but NSU struggled offensively, being out hit, .190-.076.

The Seahawks close out their tournament appearance with a 4 p.m. start against Tennessee Tech.

NOTES: The Seahawks improved to 4-0 all-time against Norfolk State … Sarah Kelly made her first collegiate start for the Seahawks … Victoria Phillips had three service aces for UNCW … Nicole Lott returned to action for the first time since suffering an upper body injury against NC State.
