Bonner Nets Game-Winner As Seahawks Top #25 Campbell, 1-0

BUIES CREEK, North Carolina – For the second time in as many outings, UNCW upended a nationally-ranked squad as Colin Bonner notched the game's lone goal to lead the Seahawks past #25 Campbell, 1-0, on Tuesday at the Eakes Athletics Complex.

The Seahawks raised their record to 4-1-1 on the young season while the Camels dipped to 3-1-0 with their first loss of the season. UNCW is 3-0 on the road and 2-0 against nationally-ranked opponents.

"It was another very good team performance tonight, especially in the first half, and felt we controlled the play for most of the game'" said UNCW Head Coach Aidan Heaney. "We probably should have scored some other chances, so we were never truly comfortable until the final whistle. Campbell is a close rival, and always a difficult game."

Bonner provided the difference in the 69th minute with his second goal of the season. On the play, Jacob VanCompernolle sent a throw in into the penalty area where Bonner was able to head home the eventual game-winner.

The Seahawks finished with a 16-4 advantage in shots, including a 12-1 spread in the first half.

UNCW goalie Sean Melvin needed to make just one save in posting his second shutout of the season.

"Defensively we really limited their opportunities, and we did some pleasing things on the attacking front. Colin Bonner deserved a goal tonight and got his reward. The back four and Sean Melvin should take confidence from the shutout tonight."

Campbell's Matthew Mozynski nearly matched Melvin, making four saves in taking the loss.

UP NEXT: The Seahawks close out their road swing with a 7 p.m. kickoff at Old Dominion on Sept. 20.

NOTES: The Seahawks improved to 21-26-2 all-time against Campbell … The win snapped a brief three-game non-winning streak against the Camels … Campbell nearly tied it in the 69th minute when Cam Frias hit the crossbar …UNCW's Freddy Nzekele narrowly missed opening the scoring when his shot in the 50th minute struck the post.
