Seahawks Crush Coastal To Capture Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Championship

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior striker Katrina Guillou and sophomore midfielder Kennedy Ulrich each scored two goals to power UNCW to a 7-0 shutout victory over regional rival Coastal Carolina in the final game of the Hilton Garden Inn Mayfaire Invitational Monday night at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Seahawks, who breezed past Francis Marion, 8-0, in their tourney opener on Saturday, won their second straight and fifth in six games to push their record to 4-3-0 on the season. The Chanticleers fell to 3-5-0 this fall.

UNCW won the tournament crown after shutting out Francis Marion and Coastal Carolina by a combined score of 15-0. Ulrich was named Offensive MVP of the four-team event and UNCW senior defender Allye Mertes was selected Defensive MVP. Guillou and Moa Jarl joined Ulrich and Mertes on the All-Tournament Team.

Guillou got the scoring started for the Seahawks early in the contest when she slipped past the defense and flipped a shot over the head of CCU goalkeeper Faith Farley into the goal at 7:27. After Jarl connected on her first goal of the campaign at 10:21, Guillou added another tally at 14:29 with a penalty kick conversion.

Ulrich then got into the act with back-to-back goals to increase the score to 5-0. The native of Alberta, Canada, took possession in the midfield and connected from 16 yards out on her first score at 57:17 and found the net again 94 seconds later to pad the cushion.

Junior forward Jenna Baratta scored her first career goal on a penalty kick at 79:07 as the score ballooned to 6-0 and junior midfielder Greyson Ray closed out the scoring when she deflected in a cross at 82:15. Savannah Andrews collected an assist on the final score.

Coastal Carolina had two red cards issued during the match. Farley, CCU's starting goalie, was ejected after taking down Guillou in the penalty area and senior defender Maddie Phillips was sent off at 79:07.

The Seahawks close out a three-game homestand Friday when longtime rival East Carolina visits the UNCW Soccer Stadium for a 7 p.m. match.
