Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Georgia Southern Scores Late To Clip Seahawks, 2-0

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Georgia Southern scored twice in the final 21 minutes to spoil the regular season women's soccer home opener for UNCW, 2-0, on a breezy Sunday at the UNCW Soccer Stadium.
The Eagles improved to 2-0 following a season-opening 1-0 verdict over Francis Marion to go along with Sunday's win. The Seahawks, who fell short to N.C. State, 2-1, late Friday, are looking for their first win of the new season after a pair of close losses.
In Sunday's game, the two teams locked up in a defense battle before the Eagles connected at 69:22 when a cross was deflected into the goal by a Seahawk defender. Georgia Southern then added a penalty kick conversion by Nora El-Shami at 83:28 to gain some breathing room.

UNCW outshot Georgia Southern, 13-7, but Eagle netminder Katie Merson kept the Seahawks out of the net with five saves for her second straight shutout in as many contests.

UNCW visits Campbell on Friday (Aug. 29) for its next outing, a 7 p.m. kick-off in Buies Creek. Georgia Southern faces Indiana on Friday at 4:30 p.m. in an opening-round matchup of the Auburn Soccer Classic in Auburn, Ala.
