FARMVILLE, Virginia –
Kellen Foster and
Freddy Nzekele scored for UNCW as the Seahawks closed out the exhibition season with a 2-all draw against Longwood at the LU Athletics Complex on Saturday.
The Seahawks open their regular season on the road on Aug. 29 with a 7 p.m. kickoff at High Point. Streaming and live stats links will be available at UNCWSports.com.
"This was a very good last warmup game for us against Longwood," said UNCW Head Coach
Aidan Heaney. "We created a number of good chances, which was pleasing, and enabled us to tinker with the lineup a bit. We managed to get a couple of our guys who had been out some important minutes as well. Defensively we were a little sloppy at times so definitely need to clean some things up in that department. I was delighted to see Freddy get on the scoresheet, as well as Kellen, as their tireless work deserved it. We look forward to opening up at High Point next Friday night!"
Longwood opened the scoring in the 24th minute when Dan Campos scored from 15 yards out, beating UNCW goalie
Sam Williams to the lower right corner. Zach Crandall was credited with an assist on the opening strike.
Foster drew the Seahawks level, 1-all, in the 32nd minute when he converted a deflection off a shot by
Colin Bonner into the lower lefthand corner.
Anthony Ugorji restored LU's lead with a goal in the 54th minute. The initial shot was stopped by UNCW goalie
Sean Melvin, but Ugorji collected the rebound and slotted his shot into an open goal.
Nzekele would tie the game less than six minutes later with a goal in the 60th minute.
Jacob VanCompernolle's shot, following a corner kick, rang the crossbar and Nzekele made the most of his opportunity and tied the game.
The Seahawks finished with an 18-9 advantage in shots and held an 11-3 margin in corner kicks.
Nezekele and Ugorji held game-high honors with four and three shots, respectively.
Williams finished with a save while Melvin made three stops for the Seahawks.
