Alex de la Pena

Alex de la Pena returns for his second season with the Seahawk program after joining the staff in October of 2014 after serving on the staff at Brown.

“I am excited to add Alex (de la Peña) to the swimming staff at UNCW,” said Memont. “Alex brings a wealth of college coaching experience and will immediately help us with his knowledge of training methods.  He also will be a huge asset in recruiting and organizational skills. Alex is known for his work ethic which will be extremely important for us to continue the tradition of success at Wilmington.”

Prior to coaching at Brown, de la Peña served on the staffs at Monmouth College, Oberlin College and St. Lawrence University.

At Monmouth, he served as head coach of the Fighting Scots for two seasons and helped both the program to men and women’s programs to third-place finishes at the Midwest Conference championships. Twenty-three athletes earned All-Midwest Conference honors and recorded 88 top-10 times over two seasons.

He served as graduate assistant at Saint Lawrence and later was an assistant at Oberlin.

de la Peña was a four-time letterwinnner at Baldwin Wallace, where he graduated with a degree in Sport Management and Business Administration. While competing for the Yellow Jackets he captained the men’s program his junior and senior seasons. During his career, he posted 20 All-Ohio Athletic Conference performances.
