P.J. Langone

  • Title
    Volunteer Assistant Coach
Former South Carolina tennis standout and Emory assistant coach P.J. Langone has joined the UNCW men’s tennis program as a volunteer coach.

Most recently, Langone has served as director and head coach of Xcel Elite Tennis in Boca Raton, Fla. He has also served stints as a high performance coach at Saviano High Performance Tennis in Sunrise, Fla., and director of American Tournament Tennis in Scottsdale, Ariz.

“I’m very pleased to have PJ join our staff,” said UNCW eighth-year Head Coach Mait DuBois. “He has extensive experience coaching elite players at every level, from junior players to professional players.

“He has a real passion for coaching and getting involved in college tennis. He has made an impact with our team and getting involved in the local tennis community in the short time he has been here. Our program has always prided itself on the individual attention that we give our players and having PJ here will allow us to take another step forward with that.”

Langone has coached more than 25 NCAA scholarship players during his career and 16 top-100 nationally-ranked USTA players. He has also coached two WTA-ranked players, two ATP-ranked players and four ITF top-200 ranked players.

A native of Franklin Lakes, N.J., Langone earned a scholarship to South Carolina and played four seasons in Columbia, collecting 82 career singles victories for the then-ranked No. 4 Gamecocks from 1989-1993.

He was the USTA National Indoors champion in 1992 before concluding his collegiate career and traveling internationally on the ATP Tour from 1993-94.

During his one year on the staff at Emory, the Eagles reached the NCAA Division III Final Four in 1994-95.

He earned his B.A. Degree in Psychology from South Carolina in 1993 and completed his M.B.A. from the F.W. Olin Graduate School of Business at Babson College in 1997.
