WILMINGTON, North Carolina – UNCW's 2023-24 indoor track and field schedules are finalized and feature seven indoor meets for the improving Seahawks.
The women's indoor schedule features seven meets, beginning with the Clemson Opener on Dec. 8 and concluding with the second Coastal Athletic Association Indoor Track & Field Championships in Manhattan in late February. The Seahawks will travel to two more Atlantic Coast Conference Schools in North Carolina (Jan. 20) and Virginia Tech (Feb. 3-4).
The NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championships will be contested from Mar. 8-9 in Boston, Mass.
"We are looking forward to this year's Indoor Track and Field Schedule," said Head Coach Jeff Klaves. "For the first time in my tenure as a head coach at UNCW, we will open up in December. We will travel to Clemson to get a great competitive opportunity before we wrap up the Fall 2023 semester.Â
"A major focus yearly is to put a schedule together that affords athletes at every level the opportunity to compete. We believe this indoor schedule is our best yet and we look forward to competing at a high level.
Graduate student Courtney Lines finished 21st overall in the long jump in the NCAA Division I Outdoor Track & Field East Preliminary Round last May. The Leland, N.C., product registered marks of 19-9.50, 19-0 and 18-3.75 in her three jumps to wind up 21st in the field of 48 jumpers.
"Our goal is to be competitive at the conference level and beyond and it starts with outstanding performances like Courtney Lines had last indoor season, said Klaves. "We believe she is one of many that are capable, so stay tuned for others that are on the rise."Â Â
Klaves believes the roster is full of athletes who are ready to break out and to be players at the CAA level and beyond. Lines is the reigning CAA indoor conference champion and looks to lead the Seahawks off of her 6.38m (20'11.25") school record jump that won the CAA Indoor title last February.
"The mission statement this year is "No Ceilings" and we believe we are a program on the rise. I look forward to leading this group of outstanding women, they have been working hard all fall and are ready to compete!"
Full dates for the UNCW outdoor Track & Field schedule will be unveiled at a later date.
