UNCW Freshmen Sweep CAA Swimming Awards


WILMINGTON, N.C. – UNCW freshmen swimmers Sam O'Brien and Katie Knorr were honored by the Colonial Athletic Association as its swimmers of the week following strong performances last weekend against Duke and Boston College.

O'Brien finished first in the 1000 and second in the 500 Free events. His time in the 1000 (9:23.29) was the top time in the conference by nearly nine seconds and the 500 time of 4:34.18 leads the conference. He added a fourth-place finish in the 200 Back.

Knorr won the 400 IM with a conference-best time of 4:27.52, nearly six seconds better than the second-best time. She also finished third in the 200 Back (2:03.20) with the third-fastest time in the CAA this season.

The Seahawks return to action this weekend when they host Delaware, James Madison and William & Mary in a CAA pod meet on Nov. 6-7 at the Seahawk Natatorium. The action kicks off at 10 a.m. on Saturday.
