When it came to heart and desire, no one exemplified it more than Shawn Williams, an outstanding player for the men’s basketball program from 1980-83.

The Washington, N.C., student-athlete led the Seahawks in scoring with 15.4 points per game in 1982 and a 16.1 average in 1983. In 109 career appearances, he scored 1,439 points (6^th), grabbed 593 rebounds (8^th), came up with 111 steals (12^th) and had 57 blocks (17^th).

Opposing coaches often recognized Williams for his play and hustle. He was named All-South Independent in both 1982 and 1983 and landed All-Tournament recognition at the Siena Invitational, Seahawk Shootout, Indiana Classic and Utica Classic.

In 2009, Williams was saluted by the conference as a CAA Legend, honoring him as one of the league’s top contributors in men’s basketball.

Williams earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1983 and serves as a detective with the Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department.
