When it came to heart and desire, no one exemplified it more than Shawn Williams, an outstanding player for the men’s basketball program from 1980-83.

The Washington, N.C., student-athlete led the Seahawks in scoring with 15.4 points per game in 1982 and a 16.1 average in 1983. In 109 career appearances, he scored 1,439 points (6th), grabbed 593 rebounds (8th), came up with 111 steals (12th) and had 57 blocks (17th).

Opposing coaches often recognized Williams for his play and hustle. He was named All-South Independent in both 1982 and 1983 and landed All-Tournament recognition at the Siena Invitational, Seahawk Shootout, Indiana Classic and Utica Classic.

In 2009, Williams was saluted by the conference as a CAA Legend, honoring him as one of the league’s top contributors in men’s basketball.

Williams earned his Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice in 1983 and serves as a detective with the Charlotte Metropolitan Police Department.
