Cooper was a four-year starter in men’s basketball from 1977-81 for Coach Mel Gibson and played a key role as the Seahawks compiled a 73-35 record during that span.

A 1980 graduate, Cooper was named the team’s Most Valuable Player and All-South following his senior year. 

A resident of Bayboro, N.C., Cooper ranks ninth in career scoring with 1,091 points, fourth in career rebounding with 631 rebounds and first in career blocks with 143 blocked shots. In 101 career appearances, Cooper made 399-of-715 field goals for a career field goal percentage of .558.
 

Cooper ranks among the school’s Top Ten career leaders in six different statistical categories, including points scored, field goals made, field goal percentage, free throws made, rebounds and blocked shots.
