David Sandlin was one of UNCW's most versatile performers during a sterling career that saw him terrorize opponents on the pitching mound and on the plate.

A local product, Sandlin was a pitcher and outfielder for the Seahawks from 1970-73 and was one of the NAIA District 29's most talented players during that run. He was named first-team All-District 29 all four years and led the Seahawks to a combined 114-38 record over four seasons.

Sandlin still ranks among the program's all-time career leaders in several categories. As a position player, he led the team in batting and hits for three years, and paced the club in RBI's all four seasons.

On the mound, Sandlin was just as dominating. He ranks among the all-time leaders in career victories, strikeouts, and put together a remarkable season in 1970. He carved out a 6-0 record that season and did not allow an earned run in 49 innings, leading the nation in that category.

Sandlin was drafted in the 21st round by the St. Louis Cardinals and was the All-Star Game MVP in the Gulf Coast Rookie League.
