Calvin Lane joins the legendary Bill Brooks and former basketball skipper Mel Gibson as former coaches in the elite group.
Lane headed up UNCW’s successful men’s soccer program from 1971-85 and the men’s golf team from 1987-99.
In the early days of the soccer program, Lane built the team into a regional and national power. In 15 years at the helm, he coached the team to a 129-94-19 record, including 10 winning seasons. In 1980, the Seahawks went 14-2 and collected the program’s first national ranking. Four years later, Kevin Cox was named First-Team All-CAA.
Lane stepped away from soccer and took over the men’s golf program in 1987. In 13 seasons with the Seahawk golfers, Lane’s teams captured nine tournament championships and five runner-up finishes in the CAA. He coached five All-CAA performers, including 1993 CAA Player-of-the-Year Chris Buffaloe.
