Men's Tennis Adds Second Argentinian

WILMINGTON, North Carolina – Junior standout Agustin Savarino has a fellow countryman on the way next season for the UNCW men's tennis team.
 
UNCW's back-to-back Colonial Athletic Association men's tennis champions will welcome Cordoba, Argentina, native Bruno Caula during the 2018-19 season. He'll join Savarino, from Mar del Plata, Argentina, on the Seahawk roster.
 
"We had the pleasure of spending a couple days with Bruno and his mother during their recent visit to campus," said Mait DuBois, six-time CAA Coach-of-the-Year. "We were impressed with Bruno's character and motivation. We knew right away that he would fit in well with our program."
 
Caula has been ranked in the top-3 in Argentina in every age group and earned a world junior ranking of 176 by the International Tennis Federation. He finished rated in the top-3 in the 16-under South America COSAT rankings and qualified for the main draw at the Orange Bowl last December.
 
"Bruno connected quickly with our team and the university. He has an extensive amount of international experience and has enjoyed a lot of success against some of the best players in the world. He has very high aspirations for his tennis and academic work.
 
"I always like players that can demonstrate the ability to work themselves to the top of the group they're in. Bruno has worked his way to be among the best in Argentina, then South America and now is among the best in the world. We're very excited about his future as a Seahawk."
 
The talented Caula achieved a UTR (Universal Tennis Rating) of 13.13.
 
"I knew UNCW was the right place when I came for my official visit," Caula said. "Everyone was very friendly and the campus was beautiful. The team is very professional and strong. I know UNCW is a place that will help me accomplish my goals, athletically and academically."
 
The Seahawks, who captured their sixth CAA title two weeks ago, and will be competing in the NCAA Regionals for the seventh time early Saturday when they take on No. 20 Tennessee in Chapel Hill.
